Students put on a show for Mr. OCHS

This columnist had the pleasure of judging the contest again and made my way down the aisle to the judge’s table in front of the stage where I joined fellow judges Liz Ulmer , Antwan McClellan , who was Mr. OCHS ’93, and Michael Martirone. As the lights dimmed everyone settled into their seats as emcees, John Bruno stood at the podium waiting for everyone to quiet down. Excited parents and screaming students packed the performing arts center of the high school as 12 seniors took to the stage vying for the title of Mr. OCHS. That may or may not be the thinking of the class of 2011 at Glasgow School of Art, but increasing numbers of students are deciding to make performance art, or creating immersive environments which contain objects, paintings, sound and film. If you're not likely to sell much work, why bother tailoring your work for the commercial market. Many have not bothered to price works individually. THERE's no getting around it, there have been better times to graduate from art school.
