Slideshow | Elk traps, collarings mean wild encounters on Snoqualmie Ridge
26.12.11
Harold Erland, biologist and leader of this Elk Group expedition, calls a halt to the chatter and makes sure the scattered line of volunteers bunches up, trying not to spook the panicked elk. The Upper Snoqualmie Valley Elk Management Group will soon know a lot more about this animal. Quietly, he gives the word to go. His volunteers stride fast across the fairway, each ready to play their parts in the job of strapping a radio collar onto a live, conscious wild animal. As four golf carts roll to a halt on the Snoqualmie Ridge TPC’s 12th fairway on this chilly December morning, she jumps in fright, churning the frozen ground to mud, steam rising from her flanks. Tom Lehman, the circuit's points leader heading into next month's Charles Schwab Cup Championship near San Francisco, tied for third with two-time AT&T Championship titlist John Cook. By the time Fred Couples made his way to the opening tee box for his final round at the AT&T Championship, the tournament had been reduced to all the drama of a leisurely Sunday drive. The win, which included five birdies on the final eight holes, was worth $270,000 for Couples. In doing so, Couples broke the 54-hole event scoring record and posted the largest winning margin on the Champions Tour this season. He has now cashed nearly $958,000 in only nine tournaments on the senior tour this year, including two victories. "We all knew he was going to win," said runner-up Mark Calcavecchia, who also shot a 66 to close at 16-under. A day after scorching AT&T Canyons Course with a 10-under 62, the Champions Tour star put together a pedestrian 66, finishing at 23-under 193 overall and cruising to a seven-stroke victory. From Pre-K to Prison, Theresa Morris has Made a Positive Impact
04.09.11
Theresa Morris, who has taught the horticulture program at Cimarron Correctional Facility (CCF) for the past 13 years, may indeed be known best for her "green thumb. "I understand Theresa has gone to the Pre-K classes and talked to the kids and let them start a bean growing," Roof said. ) Say the name "Theresa Morris" and a common response is heard - "She's a great lady - and boy does she know how to grow plants. " In fact, students in the area may remember her as early as Pre-K as "the lady who taught them how a bean grows. Other students may think of Morris as the lady who took the time to take them, their animals/and or projects to show at local 4-H or FFA events. I've heard several people say their kids still talk about getting to do that project. Read the rest of this entry »
